R4 DS games cards can be used to play both homebrew games and homebrew applications as well as movies, music and read eBooks too, all on your Nintendo DS or DSi. Homebrew games are games developed by game designers that they make in their spare time or as pet projects, they then release these games absolutely free for everyone to download and play, so long as they have an R4 Card. Similar to Freeware software on computers. Did I mention that all of these homebrew games and apps are available as freeware downloads online?
If free games were not enough for you - then you'll surely be interested in the included movie and music player for the R4 Card, allowing you to turn your Nintendo DS or DSi into a portable movie player and iPod like MP3 Player too. Some of the homebrew developers would love it if you would donate after you have played their game or used their app, but they do not limit the game in any way, and usually always suggest a donation instead of demand one. The R4 DS cards can store a multitude of file types and allow your Nintendo DS to use them quickly and easily, just like any other NDS Game card would load up.
This slot 1 flash card has no compatibility when it comes to GBA files or homebrew applications. All of the features are built into the r4 card, but what you can do with it as far as how many movies it can store or the number of homebrew titles it can play depends on the size of the microSD Card you purchase. The DSi XL will be able to perform new functions and a slew of features are added, simply by adding an R4 Card.
